Boost Your Wellbeing With These 5 Steps!

With it having been “World Wellbeing Week”, Our team at CancalmCBD thought we would show up late to the party and want to give you the simplest ways you can achieve a better state of well-being everyday, throughout your day! Especially, if you’re reading and struggling with your mental health we  want to encourage you to make these 5, simple, small changes that could have a big impact.

The journey to improve your well-being doesn’t have to include a huge change. Usually, it’s the small steps that ultimately add up to big change! So question… What does well-being mean to you?

Its a pretty hard-to-define, and with the hope of this blog post, I hope it equips you with the subjectivity to decide what well-being is to you and what steps can YOU take to regain control and improve it.

Your perspective of well-being may well vary over time, and just like what works for you, may not work for another. Also consider this, when in your 20s, what might have worked for you then may not work or be considered what you need when you’re in your 30s… 40s… and so on.

That is why it’s important to check in with yourself frequently to see what’s actually important to you at present.

What’s is well-being?

Well-being is deeply personal and completely subjective, it various from person to person. There is no fixed state of well-being, and therefore there isn’t a deemed “perfect” state of well-being. We at Cancalm see it as a continuum almost… with factors that may factor in one day creating a greater sense of well-being and other factors that may fit best another day, therefor giving greater life satisfaction.

These so called “factors” include; our environment, relationships with those around us, health, self-esteem, self purpose, emotions. Again not all these factors may be perfect at once.

For example, we may be in a really happy relationship but our emotions are all over the show one day… Well-being should in our eyes, therefor be viewed as always able to be improved. But how?

How do you improve your well-being?

Well-being is more than just being “happy” and solely satisfied with life. Psychologists have attempted to define and measure well-being. Why? Because surely, this would be life changing when assessing the quality of life of an entire human population. But the complexity of well-being and lack of definiton make it next to impossible to measure!

So it’s assumed there are 6 areas contributing to our sense of well-being:

  • Health
  • Environment
  • Relationships
  • Security
  • Purpose
  • Community

Taking baby steps to improve your well-being = improved outlook on life = more satisfaction from life. Considering these 6 elements, here are 5 ways you can improve your sense of well-being.

  1. Embrace a “flow state”

Embrace that inner child man! A child-like state of creativity is a great way to combat stress and boost your sense of well-being.  A flow state is a mental state of immersion in the task at hand.

This task, of course needs to capture your attention enough but not so much so that it feels overwhelming. In other words something simple, not too challenging. Ideas of flow state tasks to try include; playing sports, playing games or getting creative.

  1. Support your body with CancalmCBD

Flow state is about more than just your mental well-being; it’s also about your physical health. One of our favourite ways to support wider health and well-being is with a daily CBD supplement. It’s a simple step you can take every day to help support your body.

CBD supplements interact with the endocannabinoid system, which plays an important role in many processes throughout the body. CBD supplements also encourage a greater sense of mindfulness about your health and well-being, as it encourages you to check in with yourself to see how it makes you feel.

If you’re not sure where to start with Cancalm CBD, we recommend our most popular 1000mg CBD oil. It’s easy to use, comes in 2 variants, raw and refined (refined being less of a strong taste for those with a more sensitive pallette), and is completely free from THC. You can also choose between a tincture dropper bottle, capsules or an external cream.

  1. Immerse yourself in Nature

Nature is one of life’s simple and effective way to boost your sense of well-being. Research have found that immersing yourself in nature – provides you feeing safer as it can lower blood pressure and stress hormone levels.

A recent study found that spending time in nature reduced feelings of isolation and created a better sense of community and belonging. So get yourself outside! Walk those fur babies!… be at one with nature!

  1. Treat yoSELF

Of course, we can all joke about a little retail therapy, but actually practicing positive reinforcement is a great way to reward yourself for good behaviour and make small lifestyle changes permanent. Researchers have shown that the pursuit of short-term pleasure is just as important for our well-being as having long-term goals.

You don’t have to spend a lot; sometimes, a small treat is all you need to give yourself a little boost. So, BUY THE SHOES… joking, go grab a coffee with your friends! This can all contribute to your improved sense of well-being.

  1. Giving Back

We are social animals, we naturally crave a sense of belonging to complete the well-being circle.  Not just improving things for yourself; you also need to feel like you are part of something bigger. Therefore giving back to your community, such as volunteering or helping out those less fortunate than yourself, studies have shown, are less stressed, suffer from less severe depression and have fewer symptoms of depression.

So there you have it! A few tips from CancalmCBD on improving your well-being. Its never too late to start!

Anxiety? How CBD helps Anxiety

So! Who has suffered from anxiety during the pandemic?

It’s likely you, or someone you know has an anxiety disorder, or has experienced an episode of anxiety at least once in their life!

Whether that be caused by minor stressors such as, a job interview or major stressors such as divorce, or moving house… most of us seem to have experienced it.

It is important to remember you aren’t alone when suffering and that there are many different coping mechanisms and alternative therapies out there, such as CBD, which can help and/or alleviate your anxiety.

Research from MIND UK, shows that the population in the UK, during any period of time there are 8% of people suffering from depression and anxiety and 6% of the population who have General Anxiety Disorder (GAD). The population of the UK? That’s a high percentage…

So what exactly IS Anxiety and how do we classify it?

Anxiety is an umbrella term for a variety of conditions which go as far as post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD), certain phobias to social anxiety and GAD. Anxiety commonly appears in comorbidity with other mental health conditions such as depression. Anxiety isn’t just worry… it can be life consuming for the individual and sometimes can have a domino effect, causing conditions such as obsessive-compulsive disorder (OCD), which becomes a manifestation of the anxiety.

Usually the underlying cause of OCD… is anxiety!

Have you heard of people who have to count to a certain number before leaving their house? Maybe check all the doors are locked tens, hundreds of times before they can leave the comfort of their own home, only to go back and be compelled to check again?.

Because of anxiety’s comorbidities this the classification for symptoms falling under the umbrella term “anxiety” is difficult, because each person’s experience is unique to them specifically.

For me, (Courtney, founder of Cancalm©) my anxiety would cause me to be unable to leave the house due to fear, this would then manifest itself into only being able to leave the house back in school days without a certain feeling of perfection.

I would firstly straighten my hair within an inch of its life, and from so on, the way my anxiety manifested itself got worse.

What does it feel like to suffer from anxiety?

Well I can only give my real first-hand experience, for me, it almost feels like a brain fog, a huge fear or dread that you can’t explain or even reason with. It can start from anything to just that sudden lump in your throat, stomach in knots, insomnia to physically not being able to leave my room, house or do anything at all.

I went for CBT when I was younger to help with my anxiety, it used to be so bad that I felt if I didn’t perform the certain rituals that my anxiety manifested itself into, such as (as pathetic as it sounds) even just straightening my hair before leaving the house… the alternative would feel worse than death, leading to a full blown panic attack!

Straightening your hair, dreading social interaction and so on may seem trivial to some, but really to the individual are debilitating.

How is it treated?

Like I have mentioned before certain psychological intervention can be used such as Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT), medical intervention such as beta blockers, benzodiazepines or alternative medicine such as CBD.

Whatever works for the individual, this may include a combination of both or a variety of different things to help them treat and manage their anxiety to a level where they can function as a normal human being. Of course all medication has its side effects, this is something to keep in mind.

Why do I keep mentioning CBD?

CBD works by interacting with your endocannabinoid system, which controls homeostatsis, balance and stability within our bodies. It is also the main “conductor” if you like of our sleep pattern, memory, mood, immunity and appetite. A regular intake of CBD has been shown to have positive effects on our endocannabinoid system.

The scientific evidence into our endocannabinoid system and how CBD can help with anxiety symptoms is on the rise, however I cannot make any medical claims about Cancalm CBD and my products due to the legality of the industry. So go check out all the available and credible research articles on Google!

However, to give you a good example of some research; conducted in 2015, study’s show strong scientific evidence supporting the idea that CBD helps the treatment of anxiety disorders and that the endocannabinoid system possibly plays an important role during stages of neurogenesis, so in other words CBD, that targets the endocannabinoid system promotes neurogenesis thus treating anxiety disorders and depression.

The use of CBD for the treatment of anxiety can be both “a quick fix” so short term when going through a situation causing anxiety so can be taken on an “as and when” basis OR as a long-term supplement for those who regularly find themselves suffering with anxiety daily.

How CBD works exactly is by SLOWING down the degradation of anadamide causing a positive effect instantly and overtime… research suggest regular intake of CBD helps regulate sleep, pain, appetite and stress instantly. It has been shown in studies to contribute in the regulation of serotonin levels and regeneration of brain cells in the part of our brain called the hippocampus.

CBD (Cannabidiol) and COVID-19 The Coronavirus

coronavirus COVID-19

CBD combating superbugs?

Superbugs are said to be responsible for around 5,000 deaths in England each year, according to Public Health England.

So you may be aware that bacteria can learn to adapt and become drug resistant when people miss, skip or don’t finish a course of antibiotics prescribed by their GP.

I know I’m not the only one guilty when it comes to this.

One main fundamental problem is no new antibiotics have been developed in more than 10 years! Globally, fatality rates are over 700,000 to drug resistant infections for example Tuberculosis, Malaria and HIV.

There is currently lots of research into CBD’s potential to reduce antibiotic resistance.

It was found in a recent study at the University of Westminster, that CBD can boost the effectiveness of infection-combating medications.

Bacteria release lots of small compounds helping them to transport nutrients and build up a defence mechanism to medications.

To put it simply… it was discovered that using CBD as a supplement could abolish bacteria’s ability to become resistant to antibiotics.

It was found by Dr Sigrun Lange, that CBD actually stops the bacteria from producing “outer membrane vesicles” (OMVs). This particular finding came from a study that showed CBD Oil prevented the bacteria E.coli from producing OMVs.

Therefore, working in hand with the antibiotics and boosting their ability to kill off bacteria and slow down reproduction.

How did she do it?

Dr Lange was a senior lecturer in molecular pathology. The study involved growing the bacteria E.coli in a lab and treating it with antibiotics.

Then one micromolar of CBD was added to the bacteria and was left for an hour to see if it had had any effects. This was repeated with higher doses of up to 5 micomolars of CBD oil using 5 commonly used antibiotics, including erythromycin etc.

Dr Lange states it was believed that CBD Oil does have anti-bacterial properties for quite some time, and that previous research suggested CBD played an important role when it came to the regulation of bacteria’s OMVs.

However, the research to show how exactly this worked wasn’t there on paper…

Now with the discovery of CBD’s potential to inhibit some bacteria from producing OMVs, It is possible CBD Oil can break down bacteria’s defence, allowing the body to combat the bacteria.

Dr Lange’s research highlights that CBD Oil combined use with antibiotics may be an important and positive new addition to the future development of new antibiotics.

Further research, such as human trials are now needed to investigate this further as antibiotic resistance is becoming more and more of a threat to society today.

Scientist holding coronavirus test tube with blood

With the recent outbreak of the Coronavirus becoming a ‘world wide pandemic’ we are all so more focused on this fundamental scientific research and less on the scare mongering rumours that are plastered all over the press.

Scientists worldwide are working to find a vaccination or treatment for COVID-19.

The symptoms include;

Dry cough

Shortness of breath

This only highlights that science needs to be forefront with growing demand for knowledge, research and understanding of the properties of CBD.

A new study from The Univeristy of Queensland has found– CBD can be a remarkably effective antibiotic. The study also mentions that CBD proved to be active against MRSA bacteria, suggesting it could have a future role in the fight against this so-called superbug.

Keeping up with the Cancalm Blog…

If you’re up to date with Cancalm’s Blogs, we 100% believe in our products, from personal experience to customer testimonals we whole heartedly trust the use of CBD. From spectrums ranging from anxiety and depression to the skin-care and muscle-healing properties of the hemp plant, which naturally produces CBD.

So we hope that with further scientific research into CBD’s antibacterial properties, CBD could be incorporated alongside the use of antibiotics for health conditions and global pandemics such as Coronavirus (COVID-19).

HOWEVER,… Keep CanCALM! And carry on!

CancalmCBD® Where do we stand in the submission of Novel Foods Application for CBD?

Cancalm®, can assure you that we have the UKs largest growing, processing and extraction facilities of cannabis and have now announced our support for the Food Standards Agency’s “novel food application process” for CBD products in the United Kingdom.

Under these set requirements, any CBD food products failing to have a validated submission before the 31 March 2021 deadline will be taken off the shelves!

Cancalm® can ASSURE you that clarification has been provided by the Food Standards Agency (FSA) and that we are of fully in support of protecting CBD from enforcement and moving the CBD industry in a direction that means more safety standards to be met, ensuring you, the consumer are taking exactly what is said on the label.

So to keep you updated, from 31 March 2021, the FSA have stressed they will remove any unregistered CBD products from sale.

The exemption supported by the Novel Foods Application by Cancalm® CBD will allow our products to be sold freely without restriction under food law.

“A novel food, is defined as any food that had not been consumed regularly by humans in the EU before 15 May 1997. However, many humans have consumed hemp for much longer, hemp-derived CBD is a relatively new product.”

Our novel food application required an in-depth chemical composition of our Cancalm® products and evidence that shows it can be consistently manufactured. We also must submit safety data to prove that our product is safe to consume and that it is also safe when formulated into food products.

Cancalm® CBD have been working on this submission for fifteen months and expect to complete the submission later this year.

In a nutshell, Cancalm® CBD won’t be going anywhere! We are here for the long run. So, you can Keep Calm…our products won’t be going anywhere, how cliché!?

Lets talk CBD Expiry dates

Can Cancalm® CBD Oil & CBD Products Expire? With only the smallest amount of care and attention, you can ensure that your CBD oil and CBD based products stay at the highest quality for the longest amount of time by following Cancalm® CBD aftercare advice!

So here it is a blog, especially tailored for the aftercare of your CBD products!

People usually take CBD Oil sublingually (under the tongue) every morning from a 10ml bottle as they wake up & every evening before bed as part of a daily routine.

So as CBD is regularly used, if taken correctly and almost “religiously!” the product should usually will be consumed within a month or two meaning you won’t have to worry about the shelf-life of your CBD oil!

However, if you have purchased a bigger bottle or if you use your CBD as and when you feel you need it, then you may need to know the best way to prevent your CBD from degrading.

Cancalm®  Oil Shelf Life

From the point CBD is extracted from the cannabis plant and placed into a carrier oil, its shelf-life will generally be around 18 months. When stored in in a cool, dark and dry place.

So ensure, you: –

Keep out of direct sunlight & Keep in a cool place – This can be achieved by keeping it refrigerated or at the very least keeping the bottle out of direct sunlight and away from any heat.

Its unlikely that you will be storing your Cancalm® CBD for years. If so, store CBD in your freezer. (Ensure it has fully thawed before you use). If CBD isn’t kept cool the CBD will gradually convert into other cannabinoids causing the strength of your CBD oil to drop!

Minimize your CBD’s exposure to air – Air can slowly deteriorate your CBD product. All CBD oil products should come in air-tight containers.  So, when using it, you should minimise the amount of time that the lid is off. Also when the lid is returned to the product make sure it is completely sealed or screwed on.

Store upright – This might sound obvious! Store your bottle upright! If not the CBD may come into contact will other materials.

Avoid contamination – If your CBD comes with a pipette dropper for using sublingually (under the tongue), then ensure that you don’t touch the dropper into your mouth. This could pass germs into the liquid which may deteriorate. Also ensure that you have clean and dry hands prior to using CBD-based products to reduce germs and water entering the product.

Some general tips for keeping your CBD at the best quality are:

Keep out of the reach of children – This one goes without saying, you should be keeping all your supplements and medicines out of the reach of children, this also goes for your CBD oil. Whilst CBD doesn’t have a known point in which you can overdose and won’t cause your children to get ‘high’ or harm them, it will also stop contamination of your product.

Freeze your CBD ONLY when necessary – To ensure that you can also use your CBD product, don’t always store in -0 conditions. There is just no need. This will stop you wasting time in thawing it every time you need to use it.

Throw your CBD product away IF expired – If your product has reached its expiry then this means that we can no longer guarantee the product is safe to use.  So ensure you aren’t using expired CBD products and have used them completely prior to their expiry date.

We hope you now understand the expiry dates of your CBD oil and CBD products!

Since the influx of cannabis-inspired products on the market, CBD is a new ingredient to many consumers, however hempseed oil has around for decades sold at health food shops and is used in cooking and skincare.

When CBD oil and hempseed oil are discussed, there lays the foundation for a lot of misleading information. So they are often confused as the same thing.

So lets make these easy and break it down for you…

Averaged about 17% tetrahydrocannabinol (

THC), the psychoactive compound that makes a person feel “high,” in 2017

Averaged less than 0.15% CBD in 2014
Cannabis has medicinal and therapeutic uses for chronic pain, mental health, and illnesses
Hemp plant
Has to contain less than 0.3% THC to be sold legally
Averages at least 12%–18% CBD
Stalks of the hemp plant can produce clothing, rope, paper, fuel, home insulation, and much more
Hemp seeds
0% THC
Have no more than trace amounts of CBD
Seeds are cold-pressed for oil production; the oil can be used in cooking (as in hempseed milk and granola), beauty products, and even paint

Why does this matter so much in the beauty world?

CBD oil and hempseed oil are both popular ingredients used in topical skincare and beauty products.

Hempseed oil, in particular, is known for unclogging pores, anti-inflammatory properties and is deeply moisturising. Hempseed oil can be added to a product or just used by itself as an oil.

New research is regularly appearing proving the skin-related benefits of CBD. What we know so far is it’s been shown to be a powerful anti-inflammatory, like hempseed oil. It reportedly helps in healing:

Misleading Marketing tactics behind hempseed oil…

With the CBD trend becoming so popular, some beauty brands are jumping on the chance to sell their “cannabis-infused” beauty products but mixing or congregating the terms CBD and hemp seed up — intentionally or unintentionally.

Since CBD and hempseed oil are in the same cannabis family, they’re often incorrectly marketed as the same thing. Why would a brand do this?

One reason is that consumers are willing to pay more for CBD oil, which is a pretty expensive ingredient in comparison to hempseed oil.

It’s as easy as pie for any brand to add and label “hempseed oil” to a product, surround it with marijuana leaves, and highlight the word cannabis or hemp to make consumers think they’re purchasing a CBD product when actually it contains NO CBD at all. And there you are… paying a for a product you have been misled to think includes a premium ingredient!

Some brands may also market their products as hempseed-based to avoid Food and Drug Administration (FDA) regulationsTrusted Source on cannabis- or marijuana-derived products.

So how can you tell what you’re purchasing?

It’s pretty simple, actually. Check the ingredient list…

Hempseed oil will be listed as cannabis sativa seed oil.

CBD will usually be listed as cannabidiol, full-spectrum hemp, hemp oil, PCR (phytocannabinoid-rich) or PCR hemp extracts.

Be CBD Savvy…

While companies aren’t required to list the milligrams of CBD or hemp on the bottle, it’s become a common practice to do so. If they’re not listed, you should wonder what’s in that bottle you’re paying for???

The FDA has sent warning letters to some companies for illegally selling CBD products and falsely advertising them as safe or as effective medical treatments. That’s another reason why doing your own consumer research is vital.

It’s so important to be an educated, savvy consumer. Don’t fall into the trap of the “hemp based product hype!”

Do your research, 👩🏼‍🔬 ✅

Make sure lab reports are available upon request!
Recent news warns about purchasing CBD products online.
Consumer Reports 🗞 states “only a FRACTION of CBD oil purchased online actually contained CBD”. Out of the bottles tested, some were found to have ❌ NO CBD at all, while others contained ❌UNREPORTED THC.

The 💵 £ cheapest product on the market isn’t best.

At Cancalm® you get what you pay for and every bit of support along the way to start your CBD journey.
The cost of reliable CBD oil may be a slightly higher, but at least you know what you’re putting in your body!

CBD is not the same thing as THC.

CBD is just one of the 104 chemical compounds that is found in the composition of a hemp plant.

It is extracted using a process called distillation which turns the cannabidiol into oil. CBD is a totally different compound to Tetrahydrocannabinol (THC) the psychoactive compound found in cannabis creating the feeling of euphoria, the high.

THC is illegal in the UK.

CBD oil is legally bought as long as it has been derived from one of the 63 industrial EU approved hemp strains.

In order for CBD oil to be “legal” it must not contain more than >0.2% THC.

At this point in time in the UK, we are unallowed to make medical claims regarding CBD.

We can provide research, links and show evidence, however we can not make medical claims ourselves.

There is oodles of scientific research that you can go away and find out for yourselves that concentrate on the potential beneficial effects CBD may have. So far… the results speak for themselves!

Around the globe regulations are beginning to relax… CBD is also now legal in many parts of Europe and the USA. The “Farm Bill” become legislation at the end of 2018, so licensed farmers can grow and transport hemp. This is big deal as it has been illegal since the 1930’s!

With regulations relaxing and laws changing, other nations seem to be following trend. CBD is now becoming recognised in mainstream society, its looking like its here to stay!

A quick disclaimer; Cancalm® Ltd CBD products are not intended to diagnose, cure, treat or prevent any disease or condition. They are a food supplement.

IF in doubt CHECK IT OUT with your GP or medical practitioner!

The obvious springs to mind… When CBD comes up in conversation there is often common misconceptions and presumptions about the effects CBD can have on you; For example, it is often presumed that CBD’s link to the Cannabis plant means it would contraindicate being focused and maintain concentration as its assumed it has effects similar to THC, this is not the case at all.

As many people understand THC (the psychoactive element of the cannabis plant) can cause a disruption to focus and concentration, people assume CBD will have this same effect. This is not the case, CBD’s chemical compound inhibits it from binding to CB1 receptors in the brain (those responsible for motivation and mood), with the same affinity as THC.

In 2018, the WHO (World Health Organisation) conducted a full review of CBD. After going through all current research with a fine tooth comb they came to the conclusion “CBD exhibits no effects in effects indicative of any abuse or dependence potential” the report also stated “to date, there is no evidence of recreational use of CBD or any public health-related problems associated with the use of pure CBD”.

So we now know that CBD doesn’t appear to have any negative impact on a person’s mental capacity, the question CAN CBD IMPROVE OUR ABILITY TO FOCUS? Can be questioned…

In order to answer this, we need to identify the things that affect our ability to focus and concentrate efficiently.

This could be due to something as plain and simple as your TV playing in the background or the builders making a racket outside your house on a Sunday morning!

Even the slightest noise can be distracting, and as you would – think the obvious right? Remove the distraction… but it isn’t just physical or technological distractions that can prevent us from giving our all important tasks our full attention. Sleep deprived? Stressed?… neurological and cognitive disorders also impact severely on our ability to maintain focus.

It is published in Neuropsychiatric Disease and Treatment articles such as this that a sleep deprivation causes a decrease in cognitive function, simultaneously increasing your levels of cortisol! Yep! That pesky stressor hormone once again!

A second study found these heightened levels of the hormone cortisol decreases attention. So combining no sleep and stress your surely heading for a “train wreck”.

So attention has clearly turned to CBD when looking for natural remedies for insomnia and stress… although there are no specific results showing CBD’s direct impact on our ability to focus, there are plenty of studies on what CBD can do to the decrease the negative impacts of the underlying factors that significantly disrupt our ability to concentrate.

Does that make sense?

CBD Oil has the potential to mediate your menopause madness!

The potential beneficial effects CBD can have on the endocrine system in men and women is substantial!

Starting the big “M” (Menopause) is one of the key reasons behind women using CBD infused products, along with anxiety and insomnia. Scientific research is starting to snowball forming a good reputation amongst the cannabidiol (CBD) industry having the potential to kickstart your metabolism back into gear, treating peri & post-menopausal symptoms.

So HOW exactly does the menopause change our brain chemistry and or trigger inflammation, causing the symptoms associated with the menopause?

As previously blogged CBD Oil research has proven that it can improve anxiety, reduce inflammation, reduce symptoms of neurological disorders; such as epilepsy, skin disorders and the battle against cancer. This is just the tip of the iceberg of the potential of broad-spectrum CBD and how it can positively intervene.

Your endocrine system works as a messenger system, yep just like the conductor of a train! and consist of all the glands in the body responsible for producing and regulating hormones. No wonder we frequently use the saying “train wreck” when we are feeling out of sorts!

Any slight misdirection from this “conductor” will of course lead to a train wreck… just like our Endocrine System, when everything is functioning correctly…everything runs smoothly but one small mis direction (or hormone imbalance) can impact hugely on your health, ie your respiration, reproduction, metabolism, sexual development, growth and motor functions!

So back to the Menopause…

You may have learnt during your sex education class in school… politely, not so long ago, your ovaries release oestrogen and progesterone. These two hormones work together with testosterone simultaneously to maintain normal development of the female body and also regulate fertility and trigger your time of the month!….

One egg per month, sometimes more! are released by the ovaries in preparation to be fertilised. Women are born with a finite number of eggs, so once all gone this is when the big M kicks in… Menopause.

*Insert Scary Music*

Your hormones dramatically decrease, you may feel as if your losing your mind, hot flushes, anxiety, insomnia, depression, dry skin, hair loss, you name it!

However this is NATURAL… and will happen to all us women. Yes we can have the option of HRT (hormone replacement therapy) to aid and alleviate symptoms, but again these don’t come without their own side effects and can’t be taken by everyone.

Endocannabinoid deficiency is thought to be a possible cause for early onset of menopause.

Well stop stressing! As the more you stress the more cortisol your body will release! Cortisol is the stress releasing hormone that gets your body ready for action! FIGHT OR FLIGHT?! Chronic stress (over a long period of time) can lead to hypertension, suppression of your immune system, bone loss, type 2 diabetes…the list goes on.

So ideally lowering levels of cortisol shifts the priorities of your body to help boost your metabolism and support your immune system! Win win!

Scientific research has shown that CBD actually directly affects the secretion of cortisol, reducing levels of the stress hormone reduces anxiety, weight gain and mood swings.

Being deprived of your beauty sleep, is linked to many serious issues including higher risk of heart disease, cognitive function and again, in a nutshell, lowering your immune system.

Melatonin is the hormone that regulates our sleep–wake cycles, it is also shown in scientific research to help protect us from Heart Disease, Alzheimer’s, Diabetes and Migraines. If we don’t produce enough of this, we end up having sleep issues, “insomnia”. CBD helps to regulate your sleep-wake cycle and therefore this also controls appetite, mood, sexual desire and for all you brain boxes out there… has a positive impact on serotonin (commonly known as our “happy hormone”) synthesis in the brain.

So via lowering cortisol levels and simultaneously increasing secretion of serotonin and melatonin in the brain, CBD can improve your sleep whilst reducing inflammation and stress induced conditions.

SO back to the big M….

Let the list of common Menopausal Symptoms commence…

Hot flushes – cannabinoids may help to ease frequency and intensity of temperature changes in your body.

Anxiety– CBD works to boost its own levels of cannabinoids, easing anxiety and reducing levels of cortisol, less stress, less anxiety.

Depression– CBD helps the body to naturally produce more melatonin and serotonin, lower levels of melatonin and serotonin in the brain can lead to depression.

Insomnia– not only can a lack of Zzz exaggerate other symptoms, CBD works to increase levels of melatonin and decrease levels of cortisol so CBD can help you get a better night’s sleep.

High Blood Pressure– hormone fluctuations can cause high blood pressure, studies into CBD show that CBD has the potential to lower blood pressure.

PMS– These fluctuations of hormones before and during menstruation, CBD is hugely anti-inflammatory relieving cramping and controlling mood swings.

Digestive Issues– CBD also reduces inflammation in the digestive tract, in addition to reducing nausea.

Dry Skin– Low levels of particular hormones can cause our skin, which contains many cannabinoid receptors. Hemp also contains a wide variety of vitamins, nutrients, omega-6 fatty acids and omega 3. Not to mention its anti-ageing properties, reducing the look of fine lines and wrinkles…. 50 going on 30?

Weight Gain– metabolism is directly affected by our hormones, especially when going through the menopause!… as oestrogen levels decrease, you burn less fat lowering your metabolism. Studies show that CBD oil can possibly lower and regulate insulin production, it may be able to help weight loss.

Vaginal Atrophy – Topical use of CBD cosmetics has shown to be beneficial in these sensitive areas as they’re both “vasodilators” (they dilate/open up blood vessels in that specific region) increasing sensation, blood flow and relaxing muscles and decreasing inflammation.

Brain Fog – many women can relate to the “brain fog” when entering into the M Zone… hormones such as oestrogen and progesterone promote neurons in the brain to create new connections, a lack of these hormones impacts hugely on how your brain functions causing emotional instability, memory loss and confusion. Research has shown CBD is a powerful neuroprotector and so is used as a supplement for healthy brain function.

To sum up Cancalm® CBD Oil has a lot to offer, so why not add it in your wellness routine?

Can my Fur-babies (Cats & Dogs) have CBD Oil?

Cancalm® CBD Oil for Pets.

Most animals need only a small dose of CBD to benefit from the positive effects of cannabidiol, hemp-derived CBD oil won’t harm your dog or cat.

Dogs and the Endocannabinoid System

Cannabinoids found in Cancalm® hemp-derived products offer therapeutic effects by interacting with systems of receptors in our bodies called the Endocannabinoid System (ECS).

You experience these benefits of CBD thanks to this endocannabinoid system located throughout our central and peripheral nervous systems.

So why should your fur babies miss out on these benefits?!

Great news is your dogs and cats have this system too!

The ECS plays a vital role in regulating homeostasis within the body, mood, sleep patterns, appetite and generally keeps physiological processes in balance.

This system can be found in every other living creature on earth.

Choose the RIGHT CBD products for your fur-babies. Our pets deserve only the best! So before considering a CBD product for your pet, check out the facts!…

There is no need to be looking for products including artificial flavourings, claiming to ensure your pets see CBD oil as catnip! Or a big juicy steak! Keep an eye out for all natural ingredients.

Cancalm® can provide lab results on all our CBD hemp derived products. These are readily available upon request, as of course, you have the right to know what’s in your and your fur-babies CBD oil.

So what’s the benefits for your four-legged friends?

Many of our customers and pet owners report benefits such as, improved mobility, greater appearance of fur, less anxiety, even a complete reduction in seizures for pets with epilepsy, these are only to name a few!

Everyone knows an owner with an anxious pet, whether that be separation anxiety or general anxiety, you can spot them a mile off in the park…

Adding CBD into the mix of your pets diet can give beneficial calmness by helping to stabilise chemical imbalances in the brain. This is to do with interactions with various neurotransmitters within the brain, including serotonin and adenosine.

CBD can be utilised for stressful experiences, such as a trip to the vet, long car journeys or even the dreaded 5th of November….Guy Fawkes night- Fireworks!! – Cancalm® recommend not taking your dogs along to see an all singing all dancing firework display…

Our chocolate lab Ruby is terrified of fireworks, but giving her CBD oil helps her calm and settle, from running around panting, sweating and barking… she’s chilled out and relaxed on the sofa after a little CBD.

Improvements in mobility

Some pets, especially certain breeds such as our own Ruby a Chocolate Labrador are more susceptible to certain health conditions, like hip dysplasia and for older dogs stiff joints and a reduction in their general mobility is often an issue.

We understand this isn’t great to see happening to your fur-baby.

Therefore, introducing CBD offers animals a chance to regain the wag in their tails!

CBD shows promising results in reduction of joint pain and stiffness due to inflammation and is amongst the best natural anti-inflammatory remedy a pet can be given!

Digestion and Appetite

Some dogs begin to show less interest in food, especially with age or if they are unwell, this may result in a loss of appetite all together. Some may experience issues with digestion. Our cat Diamond certainly struggles with her digestion!

CBD oil for pets has the potential to increase appetite and decrease nausea by interacting with their ECS. The key to health…  and especially healing and recovery is a healthy appetite.

So dosage?

Start your pet off with the lowest dose and keep note of any changes in your pets behaviour. These changes can usually be seen at around 30 minutes after ingestion. If unaffected after 60 minutes, you can try increasing their dosage. Every pet varies.

Dosage of CBD isn’t an exact science, but dosages are usually estimated in approximation to weight. Experimenting with a sensible dosage and frequency is always necessary to find the right suited dose for your four legged friend. An example of a dosage chart can be seen below for Cancalm® CBD Oil 500mg. These are general guidelines and will not apply 100% to every animal.
